‘Seasons’ is inspired through my love of nature. For me, nature inspires beauty and majesty; filling my spirit with an inner essence of peace and tranquility. The seasons represent vibrant colours and growth in nature, changes in the climate and a metaphor for the cycles of life.

  • Spring begins with daffodils flourishing, baby birds chirping, baby animals nursing, the new shoots of growth developing and flowers beginning to bud.

  • Summer brings abundance of color and growth. The breezes bring the summer rains. The forests fill with undergrowth, the trees fill with fruit, the fields fill with wild flowers and grasses and the gardens sprout with vegetables, herbs and flowers.

  • Autumn is a season when the days grow shorter. Leaves fall turning to various shades of brown and seeds scatter in the undergrowth; the cooler winds bringing cooler weather.

  • Winter is a time for snow in many countries when the days are short and bleak and the winds blow cold. Few creatures stir and plants do not visibly grow. Winter is a period for dormancy and migration; a rest period before the flurries of spring.

Seasons is a wonderful topic to explore with children. Children love to explore and learn about nature. Children love to walk a bush path, journey to the park to play or to find shells along the seashore.

A representation of the seasons in collage inspired me to use my depiction of seasons as a teaching resource for children in the early years. For me, collage is imaginative, creative and fun. It represents a simplistic, childlike way of representing artistic connection with creativity and beauty. Collage connects me with art, nature and a spirit of childhood.
